Admiring The Area Of Brompton, SW10
Brompton is one of the areas of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It roughly occupies a triangle shape, which is formed by Brompton Road/Old Brompton Road, the Brompton Cemetery and Fulham Street/Walton Street.
For a good number of years, Brompton has been home to a relatively large number of actors, writers and people of similar occupation. The Dickens’s Dictionary of London, 1879 cites that the area was considered exclusively the artistic quarter of the capital, with notable people of the chisel and brush still frequenting its streets.
Brompton Cemetery, established in 1840, was originally named West of London and Westminster Cemetery. It is among the Magnificent Seven cemeteries that were privately-founded in the 19th century within the boundaries of London. This cemetery is also among the oldest and most popular.
The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a grade II listed building. Brompton Oratory is located on the A4, the part where it becomes Brompton Road. The church has close connections with the London Oratory School, which features Mass at the site on certain feast days and Holy Days of Obligation.
