Welcome To The District Of Kensington, W8
One of the districts of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is Kensington. Kensington is located in west London and is centred on Kensington High Street. The area doesn’t have clear boundaries. The south border with Chelsea is complex as both areas feature similar architecture. The north is defined by Holland Park Avenue. West London railway line marks the border to the west.
The area is largely focused on Kensington High Street. It is a commercial centre and a museum district, featuring the Royal Albert Hall and Royal College of Music. A number of embassies are also located here. Additionally, in synergy with connections to France, there is the French Consulate, Lycee Francias Charles de Gaulle, and French Embassy Cultural Department.
Kensington is among the most affluent areas of London, with exclusive garden squares and streets, in addition to Edwardes Square, Wycombe Square and large parts of the neighbourhood of Holland Park.
One of the notable landmarks of the area is Kensington Palace, situated in Kensington Gardens. This has been used as residence for the British Royal Family as early as 17th century. Presently it is the official residence of the Duchess and Duke of Cambridge, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
